We are excited to launch our last wave of The REVIVIAL INITIATIVE with three amazing Brazilian Jiu JItsu academies that are each in the process of reopening and rebuilding after long shut downs due to the pandemic. We applaud the hard work, guts, and determination of all gym owners who put in countless hours, resources and sacrifices to build their own business and share the gentle art with both children and adults in their community. Their contributions have helped people improve their self-confidence, physical and mental health, and provided a sense of belonging and friendship to their students. The three academies included in the final wave include Bayshore BJJ, Common Ground BJJ, and Strategic Combat Academy. The NOGI kits will be available for pre-order from October 12, 2020 to October 25, 2020. The gear will ship to customers in early to mid January 2021.

Bayshore BJJ - Professor Joe Dockery opened Bayshore BJJ in Hazlet, New Jersey in December 2019 and built up strong kids and adult program consisting of over 100 students. Since the pandemic hit, he has worked hard to keep his students together through Zoom classes featuring high-level guest instructors, helping students who have lost their jobs and working long hours to teach small group classes, cleaning his academy and keeping a positive attitude for his students.

Common Ground BJJ - Common Ground BJJ was founded in Pasadena, California by Professor Alex Aung who is a Black Belt under CARBYNE founder Shawn Williams. Professor Alex has trained BJJ for close to 25 years and has been a student of Shawn Williams for close to 15 years. He honed his craft as coach at Shawn’s Los Angeles academy as well as coaching at Cal State Los Angeles and out of his garage prior to opening Common Ground. He has a cultivated a welcoming culture at his academy, where students from diverse backgrounds come together to learn, training and support each other. 

Strategic Combat Academy - Strategic Combat Academy offers students in Old Bridge, New Jersey an amazing facility where they can reach their full potential in fitness and martial arts. The academy features classes in fitness, boxing, Muay Thai Kickboxing, wrestling, BJJ, and MMA all under one roof. Shawn Williams cornered one of Strategic’s top fighters and instructors, Ryan Rizco, who is a top prospect who cross-trains at Stategic and Renzo Gracie Academy.

The REVIVAL INITIATIVE is a collaboration between CARBYNE and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academies to help the academies reopen and get back on their feet. We work with the academies to design a NOGI BJJ kit consisting of a rashguard and pair of shorts and put them on our site for a pre-order sale. Fifty-percent of the revenue generated from the sales go directly back to the academies to help them with rent, payroll and other operating costs.
